Sebastian Samuelsson opens up about his new life alongside his biathlon career – now admits: “I miss it”

Sebastian Samuelsson is charging ahead of a new biathlon season.
Much is the same – but one thing is very different: he has become a father for the first time.
– Everything has worked much better than I had expected, he says.

That was in May Sebastian Samuelsson and partner Linnéa Karlsson became parents to daughter Elsa. Fantastic, thinks the 27-year-old.
– It is difficult to know in advance how things will turn out. But it has been absolutely wonderful, says Samuelsson.

He continues:
– Everything has worked much better than I had expected. I have been able to train well. I had expected more compromises, but I haven’t really felt it yet. So it has surprised me a bit, most things have gone a bit better than the challenges I saw before. There have of course been challenges, but it has worked out in a good way.

“Abstain from something”

Samuelsson is now training at high altitude in Font Romeu, France, ahead of the season. He has skipped the summer’s two previous camps to be at home with his daughter. Becoming a father, he believes, will be good for his sportsmanship.
– I think I feel that once I am training, which I have been able to do in the same way as before, it has felt important to take advantage of the time because it is very clear that you refrain from anything else, he says .

The article continues below.

He describes the feeling of no longer knowing what tomorrow will look like.
– For now, something else has the highest priority. And that has probably made me use my time in a better way. When I’ve been in training I’ve wanted to do as well as possible because I don’t know what the next day looks like.

“Sebbe’s” words

During the summer’s training, Samuelsson puts an extra big focus on shooting. He feels the skiing is good enough to compete to win the overall World Cup.
– But the shooting part has been what has lagged behind. So I’ve worked a lot on that.

The big goal of the coming season is to be in the running for the overall World Cup. The best thing you can win as a biathlete, according to Samuelsson.
– I have won WC gold, I have won medals at championships, I have won in the World Cup. It feels natural that the next goal is to win the overall World Cup. It is clear that it is extremely difficult to do so and it requires performing at a high level for a long time. But that’s what I want to do and feel I’m missing, he says.
