The Upfronts are currently taking place, where all major US broadcasters present their plans for the fall. ABC, home of The Rookie, also pulled out the calendar – but the police series was nowhere to be seen. But ABC also had a really good change in store that should make fans happy.
When does The Rookie Season 7 start?
The Rookie season was one of many series seasons that came later than originally planned because of the big Hollywood double strike last year. Instead of the usual fall of 2023, season 6 didn’t start until February 2024.
Since season 6 is only half as long as other The Rookie seasons, there was great hope that season 7 would still start in the fall as usual. There has now been a rejection. The Rookie season 7 won’t come until 2025.
The good news: Season 7 has no breaks at all
The Rookie fans are sure to get their hearts pumping when they hear Disney Television Group President Craig Erwich talk about their favorite series. It’s from “Cornerstone of our plans” and “great story” the speech.
But the most exciting thing is a promise from Erwich that is supposed to make up for the later start of The Rookie and other series:
you will be run without a break. And this momentum of an original episode week after week is an important driving force for these series.
Season 6 of The Rookie was also shortened and only had 10 episodes instead of the usual 22. Season 7 will reportedly have 18 episodes. Normally, seasons of this length take a winter break and other broadcast breaks for several weeks. We are spared that.
So in 2025 we’ll be enjoying 18 weeks of The Rookie. The later start is just bearable.
