After the launch of Season 5, there was a noticeable increase in cheaters in Call of Duty: Warzone and Modern Warfare III. Now Activision officials have explained how this came about.
How bad was the cheater plague? The fifth season started a few days ago and at the same time Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III landed on Xbox Game Pass. Then over the weekend, reports emerged that there were an unusually high number of cheaters in the popular online shooter.
On X, CharlieIntel reported: “After the launch of Season 5, there appears to be an influx of cheaters throughout Warzone, including in ranked play. Many of the cheaters appear to be playing via PC Game Pass (Microsoft Store version) as they appear in the lobby with an Xbox logo and use hacks. There is no comment from Activision so far.”
This trailer will get you in the mood for Call of Duty – Warzone:
Cheaters had an easy time for a short time
Has there been a comment from Activision yet? Activision’s response followed today, July 30, 2024. Via the account “Call of Duty Updates” those responsible explained via X:
“RICOCHET Anti-Cheat fixed an issue with a detection system over the weekend that was causing a spike in cheater reports. To clarify, #TeamRICOCHET is able to detect the specific platform for all users, regardless of how they appear in-game. If you suspect a player in your lobby is cheating, regardless of platform, we encourage you to file a report in-game for further investigation.
We remain committed to fighting cheaters, shutting down cheat providers, and providing our players with a fair and fun gaming experience.”
Apparently, PC gamers were able to pretend to be Xbox players for some time and then use PC hacks to gain an advantage. Hence Activision’s explanation about the platform detection now working again. Unfortunately, cheaters are always present in multiplayer games. Here we report on 6 cheaters who cheated live in front of a camera
