Season 5 brings new dungeons into the game, with which you can farm reputation and XP, reminiscent of “dopamine tunnels”

Season 5 in Diablo 4 is just around the corner and brings new content into the game. With the season mechanic, the new “Hellbreach Dungeons”, you farm reputation and XP. They are also intended to be reminiscent of the popular “Dopamine Tunnel”.

The new Season 5 has the seasonal theme “Infernal Hordes”. The theme is reflected in the new endgame activity of the same name, “Infernal Hordes”, which is available from World Level 3. You activate a “Infernal Compass” and then fight against time-limited waves of monsters. In the process, you collect “Burning Aether”, which you exchange for various rewards.

At world levels 1 and 2, you prepare for the Hell Hordes with the new season mechanics. The new Hellbreach dungeons are basically smaller versions of the Hell Hordes, which are good for collecting reputation and XP.

New season mechanics prepare you for the endgame

What are the Hellbreach Dungeons? In the YouTube livestream on August 1, the developers of Diablo 4 explained that the Infernal Hordes are an endgame activity in World Tiers 3 and 4. With the Hellbreach dungeons, they want to offer content for players on World Tiers 1 and 2.

The Infernal Hordes are permanent and available on both seasonal and eternal realms. The Hellbreach dungeons, on the other hand, are seasonal and, according to Blizzard, contain “events that you can expect in the Infernal Hordes.”

The new dungeons are a good source for:

  • Farming reputation for the new reputation system in Season 5
  • farming XP
  • strong equipment
  • Players should also find out what awaits them in the endgame in the Hell Hordes. The Hellbreach dungeons contain elements from the Hell Hordes, so you can also make a choice there about how you want to fight. The riskier you are, the more rewards you will receive:

Why do they remind us of the “dopamine tunnel”? The Tunnels of Domhainne dungeon received a lot of praise from players in the first seasons of Diablo 4. Due to the good enemy density, the layout and the constant action, the community called the dungeon the “Dopamine Tunnel.”

The developers also remember the name in the livestream. Lead Seasons Designer Daniel Tanguy explains the connection between the new Hellbreach dungeons and the “Dopamine Tunnel”:

Originally we were based on the Tunnel of Domhainne, if you remember that, but with the introduction of the Infernal Flood in Season 4, we had to change that a little bit because I don’t think that would have been enough on its own. And so we took a lot of elements from the Infernal Hordes and used this as an opportunity to introduce those elements.

Community Director Adam Fletcher responds that “everyone remembers it.”

The Hellbreach dungeons could therefore be a promising way to quickly level up to world level 1 and 2 and boost your reputation at the same time. The new reputation system in Season 5 is reminiscent of the Iron Wolves from Season 4. In Season 5, you will again receive equipment, important mats and, finally, a “Magnificent Spark.” You can find out more about the new season here: Diablo 4 Season 5: Start, theme and changes
