Season 4 has been exciting players for a month, now Season 5 is announced – and you can test it beforehand

Season 4 has been running in Diablo 4 for a month now and is doing a lot of things right. Now Blizzard is announcing Season 5 – and you can test it out again beforehand on a PTR.

Season 4 started on May 14th, almost exactly a month ago. The season has been well received by the majority of players. Some say: This is how Diablo 4 could have been from the beginning. Many praise the revised hell floods and the adjustments to the endgame in particular. This has been criticized since the release, but now players think: The endgame is finally fun.

In a post on the Diablo 4 forum on June 13, Community Manager Adam Fletcher announced that the next update for Diablo 4 would be the mid-season patch. This time, however, there will not be a livestream for the patch as usual. Instead, the team will talk about Season 5 in a stream. And a PTR is also planned.

Season 5 gets a PTR

What do the developers announce? In the Diablo 4 forum, Adam Fletcher writes that there will be a stream on June 21st in which the team will talk about Season 5. Fletcher specifically writes that the upcoming livestream will be a “Season 5 PTR Campfire Chat.”

So we now know that there will be a PTR (Public Test Realm) for Season 5 where you can test the new content in advance. But first, according to Fletcher, there will be the mid-season patch, which includes “a lot of significant updates to the game, class balance, and more.”

When can I test Season 5? Nothing specific is known about this yet. Diablo expert and Twitch streamer wudijo suggests in his post on X that June 25th or July 2nd could be the possible start date for the PTR for Season 5. In both cases, that would be a Tuesday. The PTR for Season 4 also started on a Tuesday, April 2nd, and ended a week later.

When is the mid-season update coming? The team only planned to release the mid-season update after the PTR was completed. However, it would be “better for all players” if it were released beforehand. Blizzard will publish the patch notes on June 14th, and the update itself “sometime next week.”

Fletcher writes in the article as justification:

Now, the Season 5 PTR would include some of these changes from the Mid-Season Update, and we didn’t want to give players whiplash when they transition back to Season 4 after the PTR concludes, so we believe it’s best for everyone to deliver the Mid-Season Update sooner.

There’s “a lot going on” in the world of Sanctuary, notes Fletcher. Here’s what we already know:

  • The patch notes for patch 1.4.3 will be released on June 14th
  • The Season 5 PTR Campfire Chat livestream will take place on June 21st
  • On July 18, there will be a stream about the new class, the “Spiritborn,” in which players will get a “deeper look” at the class, according to Fletcher
  • Season 4 is expected to end on August 6th – at least that’s what it says in the character selection in Diablo 4. Season 5 would then pick up from there.
  • In the coming weeks, the Diablo 4 team will provide more information about Season 5, the PTR and the specific stream times. Most recently, patch 1.4.2 was released, which not only included adjustments to the drops and the bosses in the pit, but also surprisingly brought companions into the game: Diablo 4: New patch brings companions and exactly the way fans have wanted them since release
