Season 4 gets a new mechanic for everyone, even if you don’t play a season

The upcoming Season 4 of Diablo 4 is coming soon. MeinMMO editor Benedict Grothaus was able to speak exclusively with lead seasons designer Deric Nunez and lead game producer Timothy Ismay in advance. The two told us what exactly Season 4 is about – and what awaits you.

The most important thing about Season 4:

This is what the developers explain: Despite the PTR, two things were still unclear about Season 4: the season theme and the special season mechanics. Tim Ismay and Deric Nunez explained both to me in detail – and more.

The theme of the season will be the iron wolves, which many have already suspected. The Mercenary Association has been an integral part of the world since Diablo 2 and has played an increasingly important role since then. That’s how it was planned. Nunez says:

With Season 4, we were able to continue this tradition by permanently integrating it into the Floods of Hell. Through the activities of the Iron Wolves, players can fight alongside these infamous and honorable mercenaries. […] In addition, the players are almost accepted into the Iron Wolves.

Deric Nunez in an interview

Because the iron wolves come as an integral part of all hell floods. You will be able to fight alongside the mercenaries – whether on the seasonal or eternal realm. The expansion affects the entire game and remains “forever.”

We previously spoke to the bosses about the future of Diablo 4:

“That’s the focus of Season 4: improving the looting and leveling experience.”

Nunez further explains that the changes to Infernal Floods in Season 4 will affect all realms: “How the Iron Wolves are now incorporated into these Floods is permanent. “That’s just how Diablo 4 deals with the infernal floods.”

Only two things should come exclusively for Season 4:

  • the seasonal activity “Call of the Wolf”
  • and the season item “Profane Mindcage”
  • However, both contribute to the season’s idea of improving itemization. The detailed answer states:

With Season 4, there’s a strong emphasis on the changes we’ve made across the board, with itemization, hardening [Tampering]completion [Masterworking] and all that stuff. Everything then leads back to the loot.

That’s the focus of Season 4. Improving the looting and leveling experience.

As part of the seasonal mechanics or as a seasonal item, we have a consumable: the “Profane Mindcage” [zu Deutsch etwa: Lästerlicher Gedankenkäfig]. This falls on the new Hellbourne, a new monster type in the floods of hell.

If you kill a Hellbourne on the seasonal realm, he will drop a Mind Cage. When you use it, it increases – for 60 minutes, I believe – the level of Helltide monsters by up to ten, as well as their Anomalous Ember drop rate. […]

Season 4 is about tinkering with your equipment and expanding your class imagination. The Mind Cage takes this a little further, gets people testing their builds, maximizing their efficiency. […]

Ismay adds that this is why Season 4 is so much different than all previous seasons. The changes have been in the works for a long time. While other seasons have a cool theme that then disappears again, Season 4 fundamentally restructures everything – and the changes remain.

In the full interview, we talk about other topics, like the key lessons from past seasons and the possibilities for the future. I was also able to get some exciting answers on topics that are hotly debated in the community. You can find the interview next Sunday here on MeinMMO.

By the way, the iron wolves are quite noticeable as a season theme because they come from Kurast. Kurast will also be the main point of the first expansion, Vessel of Hatred. Deric Nunez just said to me:

“We are always looking for ways to continue the story of Sanctuary in a meaningful way. But how [Season 4] Whether or not it is related to the upcoming enlargement, we can’t talk about that yet.”

You can read more about the expansion here: Vessel of Hatred is supposed to be a “step forward” – this is how it should continue
