Season 2 of The Rings of Power is preparing to

Whether it’s amazing promises of villains or a reunion with enormous creatures: Amazon’s fantasy series The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power seems to want to bring up a lot of surprises and novelties in season 2. The most astonishing information currently circulating, however, is the appearance of one powerful figure that Tolkien fans have wanted to see for years.

Season 2 is set to bring a powerful character to Amazon’s Lord of the Rings series

The second season of The Rings of Power is said to be “dirtier and harder”, but that’s not all: A sensational discovery is currently making the rounds in Lord of the Rings circles: fan sites like TheOneRing.net and other Twitter leaks want to have found out that when the Lord of the Rings series returns to Amazon Prime we can finally get to know a hotly debated Tolkien character: Apparently Tom Bombadil in season 2 included.

The character Tom Bombadil, introduced in JRR Tolkien’s book The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring, is said to be there accompanied by his wife Goldbeere appear. However, it is not yet known what extent his visit to the series will be and whether it might even be the announced new magical mentor figure.

Peter Jackson made this decision 23 years ago in the start of his Lord of the Rings trilogy against a performance by Tom Bombadil, which in his eyes would not have advanced the story. (Nevertheless, the character exists in a trading card game related to the franchise.)

Ralph Bakshi also ignored the strange forest dweller in his 1978 animated film The Lord of the Rings. This means we could see the powerful Lord of the Rings character in Season 2 of The Rings of Power seen in film form for the very first time.

Mysterious Lord of the Rings character: Who is Tom Bombadil?

In the Lord of the Rings novel, Frodo and the other hobbits encounter Tom Bombadil on their way east. Shortly after leaving the Shire to escape the Black Riders, they stumble into his realm: the Old Forest. There they find shelter with the singing and dancing man, who gives them refuge and apparently is so ancient and powerful, that the attached ring had no effect on him.

Tolkien later even dedicated an entire book to the character: The Adventures of Tom Bombadil *. Nevertheless, relatively little is known about the nature-loving master of the Old Forest, who always wears an old hat with a blue feather, a blue coat and yellow boots. What a creature Tom Bombadil is, Tolkien intentionally left it open and so Middle-earth fans have been puzzling for decades as to whether he was perhaps a divine being, a Vala, or Maia/Istar (sorcerer). – Maybe The Rings of Power will soon provide its own interpretation?

Like any rumor, Tom Bombadil’s leaked appearance should of course be treated with caution, as, according to FoF, Amazon recently used false information to find leaks. We won’t find out whether Tolkien’s character really honors us until the second season comes out. The assumed start date for the series return to Amazon Prime is currently Fall 2024.
