The social media platform Instagram restricts access to search results if you search the service for images with the tag #democrat.
In the morning, Instagram notified the user that the results had been hidden because they “may contain sensitive material”.
This was reported by several users in the Bluesky service.
Instagram is part of the Meta social giant.
Usually, Meta uses a similar restriction if the user is looking for, for example, sexual content.
You received a similar notification from the service if you searched for images with the tag #obama. Sometimes the results with the word #trump also seemed to be hidden.
You can’t find pictures of many democratic politicians on the platform.
Among other things, the former long-term speaker Nancy Pelosi and former presidential candidate Bernie Sanders the pictures were hidden if you search for them with the tags #pelosi and #sanders.
Images of the Republican Party and many Republican politicians were mostly unscathed Tuesday morning.
Likewise, it was possible to search for Nazi-themed images from the service with the tag #nazi.
Meta has not commented on the change on its platform or given a reason for it.
Meta is owned by a techno-billionaire Mark Zuckerberg. Yesterday, he sat in the seat of honor for the Republican president Donald Trump’s at the inauguration ceremony. He also hosted parties for major donors to the Trump campaign.
At the beginning of the year, Meta has announced several changes to its platform. The company announced, among other things, that he was quitting fact-checking by third parties on their platforms.
According to the new rules, on Meta platforms it is possible, for example, to express hatred towards a certain race, religion or sexual orientation, says the newspaper The New York Times.
