The SD top gets the support of party leader Jimmie Åkesson. The EU is about to agree on a common migration policy after a proposal that all migrants coming to the EU should be migrants of all countries. On Friday morning, SD leader Mattias Karlsson, Member of Parliament and former interim party leader, went out and criticized the proposal. On Twitter, he writes that the government must stop the “Migrant Pact” as it is now designed. He also states that the Sweden Democrats’ role in the government framework may need to be adjusted if this is not the case. “If not, I have a hard time seeing how the basis for our collaboration can continue,” he writes. The Sweden Democrats say in a comment to TV4 Nyheterna that Mattias Karlsson’s comment is not anchored in the party. Jimmie Åkesson agrees Later, Sweden Democrats party leader Jimmie Åkesson commented on the statement. “It can hardly come as a shock to anyone that the Sweden Democrats stand up for an independent and very strict migration policy,” he writes on Facebook. He also states that the migration pact in practice “implies the opposite”. “We will not accept that Swedish voters’ power over migration policy is given away to other countries’ politicians and bureaucrats in Brussels.
