“What has the woman done to make a man beat a woman?”, SD politician Håkan Lerstorp asked himself in the podium when the City Council debated increased support for the women’s shelter on Monday.
The statement was strongly criticized by Håkan Lerstorp’s own party colleagues and political opponents. Lerstorp has now been shut down and the party has initiated an exclusion case.
– He shows no remorse, if he had done that we might have been able to sit here and talk to him. But he thinks he has done exactly the right thing and then we have nothing to say to each other, says Helmuth Petersén (SD), municipal councilor in Trelleborg.
“Made some strange statements”
According to Helmuth Petersén, the Sweden Democrats’ group leader Mathias Andersson tried to stop Lerstorp from going up to the podium.
– He has made some strange statements, says Helmuth Petersén.
So the reason they tried to stop him was because he would not embarrass the party?
– Exactly right, just like that, Petersén answers.
