The Sweden Democrats are the second largest on Facebook, but still the most powerful in social media.
Humor trio JLC is still the biggest on YouTube and the second most powerful in Sweden after SD, according to this year’s Maktbarometer.
Most of the biggest in Sweden in terms of reach and engagement on social media return year after year in the Maktbarometern, which is published by the Media Academy.
In addition to JLC and SD, Joakim and Jonna Lundell are first and second respectively on Instagram. On X it is Hanif Bali who is the biggest, but on Tiktok it is Aftonbladet that reaches the most Swedish users.
In its summary of the Maktbarometern, the Media Academy notes several trends, including that engagement on X has decreased sharply after Elon Musk’s conversion from Twitter. The platform’s right-wing political swing continues and for the first time now more than half of the hundred largest on X are right-wing political actors.
Even on Facebook, engagement has decreased. SD was the biggest on Facebook last year, but this year has seen itself overtaken by the account Kattjouren. After TV4’s revelation about the troll accounts of the Sweden Democrats, their biggest account on Tiktok has been shut down. However, their official account on the platform, which was started after the disclosure, has gained many followers.
“It’s interesting considering that SD specifically cited its challenge with official accounts as an argument for using anonymous accounts,” says Medieakdemin’s Hampus Brynolf in the press release.

For the sixth year in a row, the non-profit association Media Academy has published the Maktbarometern, a measurement of which Swedes have the most reach and arouse the most engagement on Facebook, Youtube, Instagram, X and Tiktok.
