Scrubs has a bug in the intro that was only corrected after 5 years

Every comedy series needs a memorable intro. The hit series Scrubs has one that fits perfectly into the hospital setting. Interestingly, the intro had a mistake for 5 years that any doctor should have noticed.

What kind of error is this? The intro of Scrubs is quite short. The appropriate song Superman by Lazlo Bane is playing. You see the different characters walking to a hospital bed with a file. The positions of the characters are swapped every second and at the end JD puts an x-ray on a lighted board with Scrubs written on it.

The intro shows directly what it is about: everyday life in a hospital. If you look closely, you can see that the X-ray was hung up the wrong way round. But that was deliberate, as was shown in a gag 5 years later.

The error was addressed in season 5

Why could the mistake only have been intentional? Scrubs is loosely based on real doctors that the creators met. JD and Turk’s names are based on real doctors. To make the series as accurate as possible, the creators of the series worked with real medical advisors. (via SlashFilm)

And even without those consultants, someone probably would have noticed that the chest X-ray was hung upside down. From 2001 to 2006, the image was left that way until the character Kim, played by Elizabeth Banks, appears in the intro in Season 5, Episode 23.

The intro runs quite normally until Kim turns the x-ray over at the end and says: It’s hanging upside down, it’s been bugging me for years. This also symbolizes Kim’s role. She is a minor character who shakes up JD’s life quite a bit and causes some changes that are relevant until the end of the series.

Over the course of the series, the intro was slightly changed. Season 2 even had a longer version at the beginning. New characters were occasionally added. In the last season of Scrubs, the song was even played with a different cover. Many of the characters in Scrubs were also friends in real life.
