Screaming Crying Lying on the floor

Be careful, follow it spoiler!

After Anakin Skykwalker and, for a few seconds, Darth Vader stopped by in the Star Wars series Ahsoka last week, we can look forward to the arrival of a very special character: Grand Admiral Thrawn. The scary Star Wars villain has been announced for some time. Now it’s here and it gives you goosebumps.

In the 6th episode of Ahsoka Season 1 we see Thrawn in live-action for the first time. Star Wars fans have been waiting for this moment for a long time. The character first appeared in the galaxy far, far away back in 1991, but only in printed form. It comes from the novel Heirs to the Empire.

Ahsoka Episode 6 shows us the legendary Star Wars villain Thrawn in live-action form for the first time

Heirs to the Empire is the start of Timothy Zahn’s Thrawn trilogy, which thrilled the star saga’s fans in the 1990s. The books are no longer part of the official Star Wars canon. It wasn’t until the animated series Star Wars Rebels that the villain was brought back from obscurity.

Lars Mikkelsen as Grand Admiral Thrawn in Ahsoka

Ahsoka also agrees with this. After being mentioned in The Mandalorian Season 2, Thrawn is now right in front of us. He is played by Lars Mikkelsen, who already played the character spoken in Rebels has. Now he embodies the Chiss (the name of Thrawn’s species) in its entirety – with a lot of blue make-up and red contact lenses.

The first Thrawn appearance in Ahsoka is staged with large images. First pushes the villain’s Star Destroyer, the Chimaera, slowly into the picture. The camera pans through the endless ranks of his Stormtrooper army. And then Thrawn himself finally takes center stage and takes over the episode.

The live-action Thrawn in Ahsoka Episode 6 looks even scarier than the animated version we saw in Star Wars Rebels.

Not everyone is convinced. “Thrawn looks like Elon Musk”, says the tweet below. That was probably not the intention of the creatives.

The design of Thrawn’s army appears to be based on the Kintsugi aesthetic. This is a traditional Japanese repair method of putting broken ceramics back together using a lacquer compound.

In addition to Thrawn, Ezra Bridger, known from Star Wars Rebels, also returns. A combination that causes violent reactions: “Screaming. Crying. Lying on the floor.”
