Scraps peat and oil – more houses should be heated with waste heat from Rönnskärsverken

Since the 1980s, waste heat from Rönnskärsverken in Skelleftehamn has been used to heat housing. But all energy has not been taken care of during certain times of the year.

Now Boliden Mineral together with Skellefteå Kraft has linked Skellefteå’s district heating network with Skelleftehamns and more homes can be heated.

Replaces the heating of peat

The investment is called Ecolink and is possible, among other things, thanks to money from the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency through the Climate Climate.

Ecolink means that it is possible to completely replace the use of peat in the district heating plant at Hedensbyn, which reduces carbon dioxide imprint.

– The calculation is 26,500 tonnes less carbon dioxide emissions per year, says Joachim Nordin.

According to Skellefteå Kraft, it corresponds to 1,300 aircraft around the earth.
