Scores of tourists stranded in the north as trains have been canceled following storms

Travelers Malin Eneslätt and Anders Finnberg from Luleå decided to celebrate Christmas in Narvik, Norway. But due to bad weather, all trains between Narvik and Kiruna are canceled until Monday at the earliest.

The information from SJ reads that there is no substitute traffic.

For the couple from Luleå, it seems to have resolved with transport to Kiruna after they received help from private individuals on social media.

Bigger problem for foreign tourists

At the same time, it is clear that many foreign tourists have bigger problems.

– Tourists are standing everywhere waiting for buses that don’t come. We have tried to help a few, but it is difficult to help everyone, says traveler Malin Eneslätt from Luleå.

Among other things, she has had to help tourists from India with trying to book a taxi.

– They have it very difficult. There will be no other information other than that the train is cancelled, there will be no replacement traffic and you will have to solve it yourself.

SJ understands the problem

SJ believes that information has been issued to all travelers in both English and Swedish.

– But I understand that foreign tourists in particular may find it more difficult to access the information, says Lina Edström, press officer at SJ.

She believes that the trains will start running as soon as the go-ahead from the Swedish Transport Administration comes.

– It is a situation that is not funny. But we don’t want to risk anything happening.
