The New York Rangers looked knocked out.
But after two straight matches, the match series is alive and well.
And for Mika Zibanejad, the success just continues.
Many were surprised that the New York Rangers even advanced from the first playoff round. The Pittsburgh Penguins were the better team in the series, but much thanks to the almost inhuman goalkeeper Igor Shesterkin, the Rangers, in a seventh and decisive match, managed to advance to the second playoff round.
New important goal
Once there, they looked calculated again. After two games played, the Carolina Hurricanes led the match series 2-0 – but now the Rangers have woken up again. They managed to win the third match, and in the night’s fourth clash between the teams, another lead-heavy scalp came. And a Swede was significant to say the least.
Mika Zibanejad has made a brilliant play-off and averages well over one point per game, which says a lot considering the opposition. Rangers led 2-0 last night when the Hurricanes were on the verge of a reduction. But suddenly Rangers stepped up on a counterattack, and Zibanejad was perfectly placed to easily score the 3-0 goal on a return – and the goal killed Cane’s chances and hopes for a comeback.
Five in the points league
Mika Zibanejad’s goal now means that he has scored five goals and a total of 14 points in 11 games played so far in this year’s playoffs. With that, he is only beaten by four players in the entire NHL’s playoffs – including Connor McDavid, who scored a little unimaginable 25 points in 11 games. Rangers won the match 4-1, and it is now leveled at 2-2 in the series.
With his 14 points, Mika Zibanejad is also the best scorer in his Rangers, and if New York is to reach a conference final, it is not directly unimportant that he continues to deliver as he did. The next match, the fifth in the series, will be played on Thursday night, Swedish time.
