In the world of Pacific Rim, an interdimensional gate opens in the Pacific, allowing giant monsters to enter our world. To defend themselves, the people build gigantic robots called Jaegerwhich are controlled by pilots. The prequel could explore the origins of the program with prototypes of the mechs or the so-called Battle of the Breach in 2025. The action of the first film begins ten years later.

The cast of the original film included Idris Elba, Charlie Hunnam, Rinko Kikuchi and Ron Perlman. Others involved in the planned prequel series are not yet known, as the project is still very early in the development phase.
