Sci-fi smasher that almost starred Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt

With Mad Max: Fury Road, director George Miller has created a phenomenal sci-fi action film that draws heavily on the dynamic between Charlize Theron and Tom Hardy. Originally, however, the main roles should be with two completely different stars to be cast: Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt

This exciting trivia comes from the book Blood, Sweat, and Chrome: The Wild and True Story of Mad Max: Fury Road, which was released in February 2022 and tells the story of the making of the film. Author and pop culture columnist Kyle Buchanan shared an exciting excerpt on Twitter at the time.

The Mad Max: Fury Road starring Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt went down in production hell

When Miller – then still part of 20th Century Fox – ventured into one of his many attempts to finally bring Mad Max: Fury Road to cinemas in 2001, it was unclear if Mel Gibson would return. Based on this uncertainty, various names have floated through the room, including those of Jolie and Pitt.

At the time, they were still a long way from the power couple that conquered Hollywood in 2005 with Mr. & Mrs. Smith. They were asked anyway: Jolie just established herself as an action heroine with Just 60 Seconds Left and Lara Croft: Tomb Raider. Coming off a string of cautions, Pitt had Ocean’s Eleven in the wings.

Finally, the Mad Max: Fury Road is from 2001 never got past pre-production. After the terrorist attacks on September 11, the project was put on hold. Development of the current version only began in the late 2000s with Warner Bros. as the funding studio.

Mad Max: Furiosa is currently the next Mad Max film. As the title suggests, the prequel focuses on the History of Emperor Furiosa. After Theron, The Queen’s Gambit star Anya Taylor-Joy takes over the iconic part May 23, 2024 planned.
