Rebecca Ferguson in the depths of the silo

Of course, parallels to the sci-fi series Snowpiercer cannot be dismissed out of hand. At first glance, the dystopian setting, the negotiated social criticism and the investigator from the lower class seem like a vertical variation of the story of the end-time snow cruiser. However, Silo can quickly prove its independence.

Compared to Snowpiercer in particular, Silo is the better sci-fi series. The twisting story captivates and surprises thanks to numerous shocking twists and deaths.

In the first episodes we get to know the mechanisms and facets of this underground world. An episode about the repair of the silo main generator becomes the nerve-wracking suspense highlight. But then Silo takes a new genre direction. Later on, the series focuses more on the murder-mystery aspect and develops into an oppressive paranoia thriller with an oppressive atmosphere.

The many elements of Silo are held together by Rebecca Ferguson’s powerful play. Your idiosyncratic and gruff silo investigator, who doesn’t want to be told anything, is just one of them many intricate and complex figures. These include Tim Robbins as the seedy IT executive, Common as the loyal law enforcer, Iain Glen as Juliette’s estranged father, and Harriet Walter as Juliette’s agoraphobic mentor.

The 10-episode season 1 of Silo has been streaming weekly on Apple TV+ since May 5, 2023. The complete season served as the basis for this series check.
