Over four years ago, Der Schacht thrilled Netflix as a dark vision of the future with its narrative of a vertical prison. Now The Shaft 2 returns to tell a new story in this cruel place. However, the new film only reveals how exactly this fits in with the first part after 60 minutes.
Netflix’s sci-fi horror is back: The Shaft 2 has a terror Jesus and pizza as a reason to kill
The concept of The Shaft 2 is the same as the first film, also directed by Spanish director Galder Gaztelu-Urrutia: In one Shaft with 333 floors There are several prisoners, two on each floor. Here Perempuan Milena Smit) awakens on a level with Zamiatin (Hovik Keuchkerian). One goes once a day Platform with food from top to bottom through the cells, which means that the people at the top get plenty of food and those further down usually don’t get enough.
In the second part of the sci-fi thriller, the prisoners try to organize themselves: everyone is only allowed to eat what they ordered as a meal before they were put in the shaft. Anyone who has stated pizza as their favorite food can only take the pizza from the concrete table. But of course not everyone follows the rules. That’s why there is one extremist religious group formed around a messiah figure who, on their instructions, enforces the new prison law – if necessary with harsh punishments that can range from severed limbs to torn bodies.
While Part 1 was not squeamish about depictions of violence, Der Schacht 2 on Netflix goes one better. The fair distribution of food may be a noble goal, but the bloody methods used to achieve it must soon be called into question. At least that’s what the main character Perempuan finds out for himself with various fellow prisoners like Natalia Tena (Harry Potter). We, on the other hand, only find out after an hour what the “sequel” to the original film is like.
Netflix’s The Shaft 2 is a sequel for just 1 minute
Warning, there are spoilers for The Shaft 2 on Netflix: With many new characters thrown into the familiar scenario from Part 1, it remains unclear how the new film is connected to the original. The 2 in the title would suggest a sequel following the events of the first sci-fi horror outing, but no one alludes to the actions of the previous main character Goreng (Iván Massagué).
In the meantime, the assumption arises that perhaps there are several shafts, so that we simply ended up in a parallel prison of the same design. However, it is only after exactly 60 minutes of running time that Shaft 2 turns out to be Prequeli.e. as a prehistory.
Because after an hour a suddenly appears Familiar face: Trimagasi (Zorion Eguileor), Goreng’s first cellmate. The older man, who made a lasting impression with his particularly sharp knives, becomes Perempuan’s third-floor roommate. However, since Trimagasi died in Part 1, The Shaft 2 can only take place before the events of the first film. Or, towards the end, parallel to it for a short while.
The ending of the Netflix film shows this, because then The Shaft 2 arrives at the same point where The Shaft ended: on the lowest floor of the prison, where a girl is sent up on the food platform. Here we go to Der Schacht 2 for a quick continuation, if that two films and main characters overlap and the plot is continued for a few moments.
