Sci fi genius had to stop Arnold Schwarzeneggers blood thirst

In 1991, director James Cameron brought a monumental sci-fi blockbuster to the cinema, which has lost none of its momentum today: Terminator 2 – Judgment Day. After the dark first part, the sequel turns out to be a bombastic action spectacle and transforms the original villain in heroes.

Lead actor Arnold Schwarzenegger didn’t agree with that at all. If he had his way, his time-traveling T-800 would have a even greater massacre than in the previous one. The actor opened up about this at a book launch at the Academy Museum in Los Angeles yesterday.

Terminator 2: Arnold Schwarzenegger wanted the T-800 to kill 150 people in the sci-fi sequel

Schwarzenegger wanted to surpass the first Terminator film in terms of violence in order to assert himself against action competitor Sylvester Stallone, who in Rambo embodied one of the most brutal screen heroes ever.

In the first [Terminator-Film] I killed 68 people – in the second I have to kill 150. We need to increase the number. We massacre them, we cut their throats and kill them. We’ll shoot them with the guns – run them over with the car. I have to [Sylvster] surpass Stallone. Remember I have to be number 1 in killing the most people on screen.

Cameron didn’t agree with that, however, as Schwarzenegger recounts.

[James Cameron] said, ‘Arnold, you have to stop this. You’re a really sick guy.’

Ultimately, Schwarzenegger was won over by Cameron’s vision and his killing machine into one Surrogate father to young John Connor transformed. He has not regretted this decision. Terminator 2 – Judgment Day is still one of the most popular films of his oeuvre.

After two failed Terminator revivals: Arnold Schwarzenegger takes off on Netflix

In the past decade, Schwarzegger has twice attempted to revive the Temrinator franchise with new films. However, Terminator: Genisys and Terminator: Dark Fate fell far short of financial and qualitative expectations. Schwarzenegger’s career has not harmed. He is currently represented on Netflix with the action series FUBAR and the documentary series Arnold.
