Sci-fi epic has overtaken the next mega-movie, and James Cameron’s record just keeps getting more incredible

Sci fi epic has overtaken the next mega movie and James Camerons
Avatar 2: The Way of Water is unstoppable. A good two months after the theatrical release, the film’s revenues have left the Marvel highlight Spider-Man: No Way Home behind. A new milestone has now been reached: The sci-fi hit is the third highest-grossing film of all time.James Cameron’s sci-fi hit Avatar takes on Marvel hits and himself

Among other things, Screen Crush reports this with a view to the figures from Box Office Mojo. As a result, Avatar 2 has overtaken Cameron’s own epic Titanic to become the 3rd highest grossing film in history with a current gross of $2.24 billion. Only Avengers 4: Endgame and the first Avatar were even more successful.

James Cameron in particular has to get dizzy with such numbers. After all, now two of the three highest grossing films of all time are Avatar parts. And three of the four most successful films come from him.

Whether Avatar 2 the leaderboard in the near future climbs even higher seems questionable. Avengers 4 will be a tough nut to crack at a whopping $500 million, not to mention Pandora’s predecessor’s $700 million.

It should be noted that these are not inflation-adjusted numbers. With inflation enthroned in most projections Gone with the Wind has ranked above all other films for decades (via GamesRadar).
