The death toll in the weekend’s unusual attacks in Beirut has risen to six. After Israel’s bombardment, the Lebanese capital’s schools are closed for two days.
Four people, including a woman, have been found dead after the attack on party premises in central Beirut on Sunday. One of the victims was Mohammad Afif, a close associate of Hezbollah’s former leader Hassan Nasrallah. Over ten people, including several children, were injured. And in a separate attack, two people were killed, according to Lebanese authorities.
Such Israeli attacks in the middle of Beirut are unusual, and add to the fear among the population. A large majority of Israel’s targets tend to be in al-Dahiya, the southern suburbs where the enemy Hezbollah has its traditional strongholds.
After numerous Israeli airstrikes both against the capital area and the rest of Lebanon over the weekend, the Lebanese Ministry of Education has decided to close the schools in Beirut for security reasons on Monday and Tuesday.
