If you don’t want to pay full price for your children’s school supplies, you have every interest in turning to these brands which have lowered their prices unlike others.
While the summer holidays have barely begun, this task awaits all parents and it cannot be postponed indefinitely: that of buying school supplies. Every year, there are those who anticipate by doing their shopping before leaving on vacation, and others who start the week before the start of the school year. In both cases, it is a real mission for parents. They often have to juggle endless lists, specific recommendations from teachers and above all find the right items at the best price. Because it is no longer a secret, the increase in the price of school supplies hits the budget of many families, already weakened by inflation, hard.
Last year, the increase in school bag essentials stood at 10% between July 2022 and July 2023, according to theUFC What to Choose. This year, “the bill falls by 1% compared to July 2023”notes the consumer association. A slight drop that will not really benefit households. And for good reason, according to recent observations carried out by experts fromUFC What to Choosedespite the drop in the prices of some raw materials, in particular paper pulp which had a heavy impact on the stationery sector in 2023 (nearly 14% increase), in the supplies sections of some supermarkets, the difference is not always noticeable…
Indeed, from one brand to another, the prices charged are not the same. The consumer association noted in particular that several national brands have counted on higher prices compared to the previous year. This is the case for products in the Exacompta ranges (folders and inner folders, binders and filing boxes) whose prices are increasing this year by 6%. The same observation is made at Oxford and Bic. On the other hand, there is one category of brands that has counted on a 3% decrease. These are distributor brands such as Coopératives U and E.Leclerc. Respectively, the two show a decrease of -6% and -5% in 2024 on the prices of notebooks compared to 2023. Enough to help families respect their back-to-school budget!
