School shooting in Örebro: Worst mass shooting in Swedish history

Shortly after twelve o’clock on Tuesday, police, emergency services and ambulance were alerted about ongoing deadly violence at Campus Risbergska school, an adult education in Örebro.

In the police’s opinion, a single offender has opened a fire. About ten people have been confirmed dead, including the perpetrator himself.

Several people have also been injured, but how many are currently unknown and according to Roberto Eid Forest, police area manager in Örebro, this is because the injury outcome is so great.

The school shooting is the worst mass shooting in Swedish history, says both Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson (M) and Minister of Justice Gunnar Strömmer (M) at a press conference on Tuesday evening:

– It is with bottomless grief that we have received the message from the police that about ten people have been killed and several injured in a school shooting in Örebro. What just must not happen has now happened, said Ulf Kristersson.

“Innocent people affected”

Social Democrats party leader Magdalena Andersson tells SVT that it is a sorrow day for Örebro and all of Sweden after Tuesday’s school shooting.

– Of course, my thoughts go to those who were affected who went to school on an ordinary day, teachers who went to work, the caretakers. I also think of the police officers who worked today with life as an effort.

– It is a terrible event really and that there are so many completely innocent people who have been affected by this violence.

The king sends his condolences

In a statement, the king of Sweden, Carl XVI Gustaf, sends his condolences:

“With sadness and dismay, my family and I have received the information about the terrible atrocity in Örebro.

Tonight we send our condolences to the deceased’s families and friends. Our thoughts also go to the injured and their relatives as well as other victims this moment.

My family and I want to express our great appreciation for the police, rescue and medical personnel who have worked intensively to save and secure human life this dark day. “

“Black day”

Several other politicians have reacted to the deadly school shooting including the Liberals party leader and Minister of Education Johan Pehrson, who comes from Örebro. At X he writes that it is a “black day for Örebro and Sweden” and continues:

“Shooting on what was once my high school, Risbergska. My thoughts are with all affected and their relatives. “
