Sweden’s school leaders are critical of the government’s proposal that authorities and schools will be forced to hand over information about students to the police, writes Dagens Nyheter.

“”An obligation to provide information to law enforcement is not part of the school’s mission as it is formulated today, and the time the task risks having to take up, will necessarily have to be taken from activities aimed at students’ learning and development,” write the school leaders in an opinion.

Even the Legislative Council has previously criticized the proposal and pointed out that the government has drawn up the proposals in a way that does not match the requirements of the form of government, one of Sweden’s constitutions.

Minister of Justice Gunnar Strömmer (M) writes to DN that the government still intends to proceed with an amendment to the law.

“We will now analyze this carefully and see which adjustments may be relevant, and then proceed with the legislative proposals.”
