School insurance – so you get compensation if the child is injured

“Nothing they advertise” • The lawyer’s call: Report as soon as possible

Despite the fact that school insurance covers all students and can provide compensation in the amount of millions, few take advantage of it. One reason could be a lack of information, according to lawyer Jenny Sparring.
– It is nothing that the schools or municipalities advertise.

A sprained foot or a knocked out tooth are some of the injuries students from preschool to high school are insured for. In most schools, the insurance also applies around the clock, even during weekends and holidays.

– School insurance applies to a child who has an accident and injures himself so seriously that he has to seek medical care. It therefore does not apply to diagnoses or other illnesses, says lawyer Jenny Sparring and continues:

– What is important to know is that as a parent you must contact the school insurance yourself and report the damage. The school doesn’t do that for the parents.

Double compensation for an injury

As a rule, the insurance covers the costs that arise in the event of an injury, such as medicine or transport to hospital. But in the case of serious injuries that affect the child’s ability to work, the compensation can amount to millions.

– If you want comprehensive protection for your child, you must take out child insurance. But it’s good to know that you can get compensation from both school insurance and child insurance for the same injury, says Jenny Sparring.

Longer prescription period

For those who have failed to report an injury before, it does not have to be too late, according to Jenny Sparring. After a change in the law in 2015, the statute of limitations for damages that occur was extended from three years to ten years.

But that does not mean that you should delay submitting a report.

– Report as soon as possible if the child has had an accident, because it is more difficult to prove the damage if you wait several years.
