School building completely destroyed by fire – teenagers arrested

A heavy fire broke out in a school building in Hylte in Halland during the night. Two teenagers have been arrested on suspicion of aggravated arson.
– The building is completely destroyed, says Johan Wallin, officer on duty at the rescue service.

The alarm came in to the police shortly before 01:30 when several residents in the area had heard glass breaking from the school grounds.

– The residents had also seen how a number of young people ran from there, says Morten Gunneng, officer on duty at the police.

Shortly afterwards, the police were able to arrest three 15-year-old boys. Two of them have been arrested this morning on suspicion of aggravated arson, while the third has been released because he is under 15 years old.

“Escalating crime”

Two of the three young people are already known to the police.

– They stand out with rather escalating crime at a young age, says Morten Gunneng.

The 200-300 square meter building, which includes a school, preschool and leisure activities, could not be saved from the heavy fire.

– When we arrive, it is over-ignited and has climbed into the eaves. We understood quite immediately that we had to focus on mitigating the risk of spreading to other properties, says Johan Wallin, officer on duty at the rescue service.
