Provincial Liberals in Tory-held Oxford acclaimed Woodstock’s Mary Holmes Tuesday evening as their candidate in the soon-to-be called Ontario election.
Holmes boasts 40 years of experience in the education sector. She has been a trustee with the London District Catholic school board since 2014 and a Fanshawe College professor since 2018.
The largely rural riding has been held by Progressive Conservative stalwart Ernie Hardeman since 1995. A former agriculture minister, Hardeman said he was “not overly enthusiastic” when Premier Doug Ford removed him from cabinet last June.
The NDP candidate for the riding is Ingersoll activist Lindsay Wilson, who is an economic development professional with the non-profit Community Futures Oxford. She also sits on the Southwestern Ontario Tourism Corp. board.
By virtue of the province’s fixed-date election legislation, an election must be held on or before June 2.
