Schlumberger becomes SLB and accelerates commitment to energy transition

(Finance) – Schlumbergerthe world’s largest provider of oilfield services, it will now be called SLB. The rebranding it accompanies an acceleration of efforts to establish itself as a key company in the energy transition. The US giant intends to go from being a service company for oil fields to one global technology company focused on the energy transition.

“Today we face a great balance: providing reliable, accessible and affordable energy to meet growing demand, while at the same time implementing rapid decarbonisation for a sustainable future,” said Olivier Le Peuch, managing director of SLB. “This double challenge requires a balance between energy accessibility, energy security and sustainability – he added – It requires a balance between innovation and decarbonisation in the oil and gas industry, as well as clean energy solutions “.

The company has already begun to lay the groundwork for its growing focus on low- and zero-carbon energy technology solutions. In 2020, SLB has launched its New Energy business to explore partnerships and opportunities in low-carbon and neutral technologies. In 2021, it became the first company in the energy services sector to a net-zero target including total Scope 3 emissions resulting from the use of its technologies.
