Since April 11, a 27-year-old Congolese woman, mother of a 2-year-old girl, has been taken hostage by her companion of Cameroonian origin in the town of Ouesso, in the north. The latter demands a ransom of 500,000 CFA francs (760 euros), according to municipal and military authorities. The video of this ransom demand circulated on the networks, provoking the anger of the inhabitants of Ouesso who ransacked businesses run by Cameroonians.

Scenes of looting broke out Monday afternoon. In videos circulating on social networks, we see several dozen young Ouessois, visibly angry and looting a business selling construction objects, and another selling household appliances.
The clashes lasted several hours in this border town with Cameroon, usually known to be calm.
The police fired tear gas canisters. According to a military source, a seriously injured man hemorrhaged and eventually succumbed to his injury.
Security has been reinforced in Ouesso on orders from the Ministry of the Interior. According to the mayor, the city regained its calm at the end of the day. But bars and restaurants closed their doors all evening.
