Charlotte Baris: You dreamed of it! It’s now a reality: in your house, everything is automated, and above all there is Bob, the robot who does everything. In the morning, Bob makes sure your coffee is ready when you wake up. And above all, he takes care of all the household chores: no more washing up, vacuuming, cleaning the bathroom and tidying up the children’s room. He sometimes even helps you with administrative documents. Bob also works outdoors: he mows, waters the plants, repairs your roof, and cleans your vehicle. Now you really have time for yourself!
We know this scenario, it is that of blockbusters like “I Robot” with Will Smith, or even “Blade Runner”. Humanoid robots which, after being domesticated, turn against the man who created them.
So we are very far from machines that want to destroy us. The very possibility of having do-everything robots in our homes that look like us is not for tomorrow either. Yet we have been sold this promise for decades. So what happened? And what else can happen? The answer in this episode.
