As the invasion of Ukraine continued, an official from the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICIRC) claimed that people “started attacking each other for food” in the port city of Mariupol, which is under siege by the Russian army.
VOICE MESSAGE PUBLISHED
Living conditions are getting worse in Mariupol, the Ukrainian port city under Russian siege. Sasha Volkov, Head of the Delegation of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICIRC) in Mariupol, said in his voice message that there were reports that the food and water supplies in the city had reached dangerously low levels. Expressing that many families run out of food to feed their children, Volkov said that in some regions the situation is worse and people “started to attack each other for food”.
‘DIABETES AND CANCER DRUGS CANNOT BE FOUND’
Expressing that “vegetables fell into the black market” in Mariupol, Volkov stated that there was no meat or similar food in the city. Noting that the drugs in the city were also decreasing, Volkov stated that although some hospitals continued to work, the city’s pharmacies were “looted four to five days ago”. Volkov, using the expressions “Most of us started to get sick due to the humidity and cold,” stated that people need different drugs and there is no medicine available in the city, especially for diabetes and cancer patients.
