After barely half an hour of play, Mike Maignan alerted referee Fabio Maresca about what was going on from the stands.
Despite announcements from the stadium announcer, the chants continued and a few minutes later the referee decided to stop the match, according to Italian media.
The Frenchman left the pitch and, together with his teammates, went down the players’ tunnel in protest. Five minutes later, the match resumed.
