Turkey took critical steps to end the war, especially by bringing together the senior officials of the parties at the Antalya Diplomacy Forum to host peace talks. President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan reinforced Turkey’s position in the war by saying “We will not give up on Russia or Ukraine”. However, the British press made a scandal and tried to show it as supporting one of the parties in the war with a news targeting Turkey.
THE PERCEPTION OF “RUSSIA IS ATTACKING UKRAINE FROM TURKEY” IS TARGET
The Turkish provocation came from the British-based newspaper The Times. A photograph of a Russian submarine passing through the waters of Istanbul was used in the news that The Times served with the headline “Russian submarines launched cruise missiles from the Black Sea to Ukraine”. In order to reinforce the perception that Russia attacked Ukraine from within the borders of Turkey, the following statements were also included in the news:
“It is stated that Russia is sending cruise missiles from its submarines in the Black Sea to hit its targets in Ukraine. Russian warships now have to be more cautious after the sinking of Moskva.”
England is not the only country disturbed by Turkey’s peaceful and effective position in the war. French President Emmanuel Macron also said that Europe should undertake the meeting with Putin and that this responsibility should not be left to Turkey, India or China.
