In his written statement on the official website of the Canadian House of Commons, Rota said, “It is with great sadness that I informed the House of Commons that I have resigned from my position as Speaker of the Parliament. “As a parliamentarian, it was a great honor for me to serve as the Speaker of the Parliament in the 43rd and 44th Parliaments,” he said.
Following Ukrainian President Zelenski’s address to the Canadian parliament on September 22, Rota introduced 98-year-old Yaroslav Hunka as a ‘war hero’ and the MPs applauded Hunka. In the following days, it was revealed that Hunka was actually one of the Nazi soldiers serving in the Waffen SS unit. Rota apologized following these developments.
“STEPS HAVE BEEN TAKEN FOR THEIR EXTRADITION TO POLAND”
Polish Minister of Education Przemyslaw Czarnek stated that he was taking steps for Hunka’s extradition to Poland and said, “In light of the scandalous events in the Canadian Parliament, which included the honoring of a member of the criminal Nazi SS formation in the presence of President Zelenski, the possible extradition of this person to Poland “I took steps,” he said.
