The sad story of Hussein al-Barini, who left his car pawned in Lebanon because he could not pay for the hospital expenses, and received the body of his baby, became the agenda of the social media.
Barini, whose photo was taken while walking with her baby’s lifeless body wrapped in a blue cloth in her arms, was reflected on social media, and told the AA correspondent about her experiences.
Barini’s baby is being treated at Halef al-Habtur Hospital in Akkar, northern Lebanon, due to the health problems he has had since birth.
Stating that the hospital called him by phone and informed him that the baby died, Barini said, “I went to the hospital to collect my son’s body. The lady in the accounting told me that the hospital costs were 2 thousand 400 dollars. I did not object, but I had no money other than 400 dollars. I gave the money to get the body, but the woman (because I did not have enough money) ) said I couldn’t take the child without a guarantor.” she said.
Stating that the woman in the accounting asked him if he had a car, Barini continued:
“At first I didn’t say it was my car. But when he offered to give the baby’s body in exchange for pawning the car, I thought about it and gave him the keys to the car. He left his room and asked a doctor outside to price the car. He told her it would be worth 2,000 or less. He gave me a document to pick it up. He would give me back the car keys when he paid the rest of the bill. When I got the body and came to him, when I asked him how to take the child home, I got the answer, “take care of yourself”. I took the child and started walking. Then I took a taxi.”
A “BIG MISCONCEPTION” STATEMENT FROM HOSPITAL MANAGEMENT
Rava al-Ahdeb, General Manager of Khalaf al-Habtur Hospital, stated that the economic crisis in Lebanon and the depreciation of the lira against the dollar left the citizens with great negligence, even in terms of health.
Arguing that Barini’s experience was a “great misunderstanding” caused by the crisis in the country, especially in the Akkar region, Ahdeb said that the father was in a difficult situation and that they helped him through charities during the 25 days the baby was in the intensive care unit.
Ahdeb said that the woman in accounting only asked Barini for collateral to pay the rest of the money, adding that she did not think that this event would have such a big impact on social media.
Ahdeb said that when she learned about the incident, she called Barini to express her condolences and told her to come to the hospital to get her car keys, and that she did not approve of the behavior of the accounting officer.
Muin Mahmud, one of the doctors of the emergency department who put the price on the car, defended himself by saying that “the incident was misunderstood, the accountant asked him how much the car would cost,” and he answered the question because he was engaged in the car trade as a side job. (AA)
