Many people were arrested during the protests in Russia over Putin’s invasion of Ukraine. In the city of Nizhny Novgorod, east of Moscow, the police put hundreds of protesters into vehicles and took them to the Sormovsky police station. At the police station, 20 women aged between 18 and 27 were ordered to undress in front of the cameras in the room where they were interrogated with the door open.

Olimpiada Usanova, who advocates for the protesters, said the female demonstrators, some of whom were students, were first searched for five times, naked and demanded to squat. They were then forced to undress once again in front of the security camera in the cell they were locked up in. This treatment they saw continued the next day as well. The horrific incident that took place in March only came to light in June, as victims took legal action.

One of the applicants to the court was Ekaterina Devyatkina, an 18-year-old student. Describing in a very arrogant and sarcastic manner, their superiors were being searched slowly at the police station, the young woman said that she was ordered to take off her underwear by a female police officer.

Yevgeniya, 22, said that before the order to undress, the police addressed the women in custody with words such as ‘rabbit’ and ‘kitten’. In addition, the young women said that the conditions in the cell were terrible, there was no toilet paper, not even a trash can, they were left with a terrible smell and everyone was sick.

After these events at the police station, each woman who was victimized paid a fine of $260 for participating in the protest. In the ongoing lawsuit, 2 thousand dollars compensation is demanded from each of the women.
