A 29-year-old English woman may have caught scabies after buying shoes on the second-hand platform.
Buying second-hand clothes and shoes is a ecological and economic gesture. But beware of parasites! Besides the phobia of Bedbugswe must also think about scabies sarcoptes. Used to the platform Vinted, Becca Madddon, aged 29 and living in north London (England), falls for a pair of backets for 4 pounds (around 4.60 euros), at the beginning of September. But a few hours after wearing them for the first time, she becomes disillusioned.
“At first I thought it was eczema”
“When I woke up the morning after wearing these shoes, I noticed a small red rash on my foot, testified the young woman cited by the Dailymail. Sometimes I get eczema on my face, so I thought it was the same thing, I just put a little cream on my foot.“Two days later, the pimples spread on her legs and start to scratch. “I took antihistamines then I started noticing red spots on my legs“. Worried, she went to a general practitioner who diagnosed her with either scabies either an allergic reaction.
“JI was terrified when the doctor said “scabies”. I was panicking that my house would be full of scabies, but luckily, no one in my family has had a rash” continued the young woman. The doctor prescribed treatment and everything returned to normal. But Becca Madddon will no longer buy second-hand shoes: “It put me off buying second-hand sneakers again but I will continue to buy clothes and bags, I will just make sure to wash and disinfect them before to wear them.”
Wash clothes at least 60 degrees.
Scabies is a mild but contagious disease. It is caused by a parasite that lodges under the skin and digs small furrows Who itchy. There transmission is carried out directly by touch, contact with clothing, infected objects or an affected person. In case of infection or for prevention, laundry must be washed at at least 60 degrees (this is the same thing for bedbugs) to get rid of this type of parasites. The Vinted platform recommends that sellers wash and/or disinfect clothing before selling it and buyers to wash the items before wearing them.
