It is not self-evident for the jazz saxophonist to work with only women. In the jazz world you still encounter many more men than women, Kika experiences. “When I entered the jazz world, I thought: wow, so many men, where are the women? They are there and they are often crazy, they are also role models. Sometimes women are also put forward , but I think that is also necessary. Someone once said to me about gender balance: the swing must balance in the middle. It is now all the way to one side. To get it in the middle, it first has to go all the way to the other side. I think that’s a nice metaphor, it got me thinking.”
