Around 200 Swedes have been evacuated from their hotels from the fire-ravaged Kardamena area on the island of Kos in Greece. This after evacuation orders from the Greek authorities on Monday evening.
The tour operators Tui, Apollo and Ving have evacuated Swedish tourists from the area.
Apollo traveler Sam Nellero is stuck on the island, along with his wife and their 13-year-old daughter.
He describes that the fire developed quickly.
– We saw how the flames got big within just a few hours. You could see from a distance that it was coming towards our hotel, says Sam Nelleros in Nyhetsmorgon on Tuesday morning.
– People were worried, and the staff were stressed, he continues.
He says that the fires have not yet been completely extinguished, but that the situation is much calmer compared to yesterday.
– We don’t see flames anymore, but I see an airplane that continues to put out fires.
May return to the hotel
On Tuesday morning, Swedes were allowed to return to their hotels after being evacuated on the fire-ravaged island of Kos in Greece.
Several tour operators that TV4 Nyheterna has been in contact with state that they have been informed by the Greek authorities that the travelers can return to their hotels.
– The last message we receive is that our travelers can now move back to their hotels, and that is happening right now, says Anne Mörk-Löwengreen, press communicator at Tui.
Ving also states that the Greek authorities have signaled that the travelers may move back to the evacuated area.
– The signals we are getting now are that things are looking better with the fire. It is now being discussed that travelers should be able to move back to hotels, says Claes Pellevik, communications manager at Ving.
According to the travel company, around 20 travelers have been evacuated in total.
