Sky-high interest rates and recession continue to plague the Swedes. At the same time, the poorest month of the year falls.
Günther Mårder was CEO of Företagarna until December. Today he sits on several boards, invests and lectures on saving. He is sometimes called “Sweden’s stingiest man” and for a long time has minimized his consumption.
He believes that, unlike many others, he has not had to change his lifestyle at all in recent years, due to his intensive saving.
– For me, saving is a lifestyle in combination with the fact that I want money to invest in entrepreneurs, he says.
Buy animal feed
He now gives several tips on how to get things going in January. One of them involves animal feed, which he first revealed in an interview with P1 Morning.
– Sweden is full of factory-produced food. Whoever buys directly from the factory will usually get a fantastic, much better price, says Günther Mårder to TV4 Nyheterna.
He says that he sometimes goes past a crispbread factory in Dalarna and buys up cartons of leftovers that usually go to animals.
– The crackers may have broken, they may have fallen to the floor in this hygienically clean factory. Or they may be slightly burnt. Then they are sorted as animal feed.
Crackers and coffee
His breakfast consists of these crackers and a cup of coffee.
– By buying what is classified as “third-hand sorting” you can get an extremely low breakfast cost. There is no difference in taste.
Some may think this sounds a bit crazy.
– To them I want to say: dare to think again, says Günther Mårder.
Günther Mårder’s other saving tips in January are, among other things, to lower the temperature at home in order to save electricity and to review subscriptions and insurances.
