Savings for Arbetsförmedlingen – for hundreds of millions

The employment service is to save SEK 100 million this year.
The money must be saved to have a smoother transition next year – when 700 million will disappear.
– The management team and I have together discussed how we best distribute the savings within the authority, says director general Maria Mindhammar in an internal document that TV4 Nyheterna has seen.

The employment service has decided to save SEK 100 million this year, according to an internal document that TV4 Nyheterna has seen. Documents show that the government’s budget proposal means that the administrative appropriation will decrease by 400 million next year. In addition, EU funds of around 300 million disappear next year.

Therefore, Arbetsförmedlingen has decided to save money this year, in order to create the conditions for a smoother transition to next year.

– The management team and I have together discussed how we can most wisely distribute the savings within the authority. The focus is, as always, to protect our core mission of reducing long-term unemployment and especially prioritizing those who have been without work for more than two years, says director general Maria Mindhammar in the document.

Management teams in meetings

The issue has been discussed in management groups, where it has been concluded that 100 million must be saved in 2023. It has already been agreed to reduce administrative costs and recruitment.

“Savings are made throughout the authority and within all departments and operational areas and are coordinated with trade unions,” the documents state.

The managers at the authority will now work further with the budget and the conditions going forward.
