What is Nothing New in the West about?

Paul Bäumer (Felix Kammerer) is just 17 years old in the spring of 1917, but he and his friends can hardly wait to finally go to war himself, which has been shaping Europe for three years. The patriotic clique, including Paul’s best friends Albert (Aaron Hilmer) and Müller (Moritz Klaus), already see themselves moving into Paris and celebrating the victory.

And then the time has finally come: you can volunteer and go to the Western Front for God and Fatherland. But the enthusiasm instilled in them is short-lived. In muddy trenches, during day-long marches and in the face of the French enemy and his gunfire, the initial euphoria turns into fear, suffering and sadness. In the struggle for survival, they get to know the true face of war. But leaving is no longer an option and so they have to keep going without hope.
