Season 2 of Amazon’s big fantasy series The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power is over, but not the speculation about what’s in store for us Season 3 expected. It should be clear to everyone that Sauron has big (and evil) plans. But have you noticed that he may have secretly already collected everything he needs to create the One Ring?
Bake, bake master ring: With these 5 ingredients, Sauron should create the One Ring in season 3
In addition to hidden hints about who in the cast of The Rings of Power could soon become a Ringwraith through a human ring, Sauron’s (Charlie Vickers) next task in season 3 is also to find the last piece of jewelry that has not yet been forged among the 20 rings of the Power to create: his Championship ring. So the one ring with which he wants to subdue everyone – the very ring that Frodo will later carry to Mount Doom.
JRR Tolkien remains silent in his writings about the specific production of Sauron’s ring. We only know about a few powerful properties of the ring. For example, it looks like gold, but is much harder. The Dark Lord personally forged it in the fires of the Orodruin volcano, where it can only be destroyed later. The simple round bears the inscription of the ring poem (“A ring to enslave them…”) in the Black Language, which only becomes visible in fire. The Master Ring also has the power to let Sauron read the minds of other ring bearers. He makes mortal carriers (like hobbits) invisible, lets them enter a parallel world and extends their lives.
The question now is: Does Sauron have everything he needs to forge the One Ring? 5 elementswhich he “collected” in the first two seasons, suggest that he could jump straight into Season 3 of The Rings of Power.
1. Mount Doom has existed as a Lord of the Rings forge since Season 1
We have known the important place where, according to Tolkien, the master ring sees the light of day since episode 6 of the first season: where in the catastrophe of Udûn volcano erupted in the Southlands and created Mordor. In the Season 1 finale, the fires of Orodruin were already glowing in Sauron’s eye, so he knows where to go to find the heat he needs for his masterpiece.
In episode 6 of the 2nd season on Númenor, Pharazôn also sees a vision of Sauron in his human half-rim form in the Palantír, as well as a thick lava mass that could be inside Mount Doom.
2. In Season 2, Sauron learned all the necessary blacksmithing knowledge from Celebrimbor
In Season 2 of The Rings of Power, we watch Sauron get Celebrimbor (Charles Edwards) to create 7 Dwarven Rings and 9 Human Rings after the 3 Elven Rings. In addition to his manipulations, the knowledge he gains from the talented Elven blacksmith should not be underestimated. Sauron learns so much that in the end he even claims that he can now create the human rings on his own. You can see Sauron’s time in Eregion as training in which he went from being an apprentice to being a… Master blacksmith rises.
3. A Lord of the Rings ingredient runs through Sauron’s veins as blood
A surprise that hardly anyone saw coming (as a recreation of the Lord of the Rings series) is that the extra mithril that Sauron “organizes” is actually an illusion: at the end of Season 2, Celebrimbor realizes that he Sauron’s black blood processed in the human rings and thus corrupted them. The motto “true creation requires sacrifice” is true here. It is very likely that the villain will have to bleed even more in season 3 in order to feed his championship ring once the attempt has been successful.
4. Feanor’s hammer is in Sauron’s possession at the end of Season 2
As a magical artifact of the first great Elven blacksmith Feanor, Elrond marveled at his hammer in season 1. In season 2, Celebrimbor wants to build on the fame of the Silmaril creator and uses it to create the dwarven and human rings. Before his death, the Lord of Eregion angrily throws the powerful instrument out of the window. But did you notice that Sauron Feanor’s hammer at the end (after Galadriel’s cliff fall) again in his hands, while harpist Magsie speaks about it in the voice-over “to create something new”?
5. Sauron could use Morgoth’s crown as ring metal in season 3
In an exciting theory from Screenrant, we might already have the material for the One Ring: in the form of Morgoth’s crownwhich Sauron takes back from the slain Adar (Sam Hazeldine) at the end of season 2. The dark headdress is not only a symbol of power and a tried and tested stabbing weapon. The crown also has dark magical properties, as Galadriel’s poisoned injury proves. No wonder, since it once belonged to Sauron’s teacher Morgoth (aka Melkor), who was even more powerful and evil.
If The Rings of Power said crown was already misused by Tolkien by using it not Banished into nothingness along with Sauron’s predecessor, it could have another purpose: Will Sauron melt down dark artifactto create the One Ring? Strictly speaking, the crown is made of iron and the master ring is gold in color. But with the idea of an alloy (i.e. a mixture of different metals) introduced in the season 1 finale, that doesn’t have to be a hindrance. We’ll find out in Season 3, which is expected to come to Amazon Prime Video * in 2026.
