Saudi Arabia has executed more than 100 foreigners this year | News in brief

According to human rights organizations, Saudi Arabia has executed a record number of foreigners. Among the executed foreigners are citizens of Asian and African countries.

Saudi Arabia has executed at least 101 foreigners this year.

The number is based on calculations by the news agency AFP.

Uutistoimisto reports that the number of executed people almost tripled compared to 2023 and 2022.

Last year, Saudi authorities executed 34 foreigners.

Most recently, Saudi Arabia executed a foreigner on Saturday. A Yemeni man sentenced to death for drug smuggling was executed in the southwestern city of Najran.

In addition, this year Saudi Arabia has executed citizens of Pakistan, Syria, Nigeria, Egypt, Ethiopia, Jordan, Sudan, India, Afghanistan, Sri Lanka, Eritrea and the Philippines.

The German-based European-Saudi Organization for Human Rights (ESOHR) stated on Sunday that Saudi Arabia has executed a record number of foreigners this year.

The organization criticized Saudi Arabia’s execution policy as excessive and contradictory in relation to the country’s aspirations.

Executions are not unusual in an old country like Saudi Arabia.

In recent years, however, Saudi Arabia has tried to change its image in a more modern direction in order to attract tourists and investors to the country.
