Some financial analysts believe that Microsoft’s value could quickly surpass that of Apple. At the origin of this performance, Satya Nadella, 56, CEO of the company since 2014. Through diversification, he has multiplied Microsoft’s capitalization tenfold, which today reaches $2.4 trillion. It is now betting everything on artificial intelligence with a $13 billion investment in OpenAI, the startup that created ChatGPT.
In an interview given to L’Express, he explains how AI should strengthen Microsoft’s preeminence in businesses – Windows is deployed on 1.4 billion computers worldwide. Nadella also emphasizes the industrial dimension of the company and the importance of its globalized cloud and urges Europe to build on this infrastructure rather than trying to catch up with the tech giants – enough to arouse the ire of supporters of European digital sovereignty. Finally, Nadella opens up on the question of copyright on works that feed AI, recognizing that we will have to find new systems of sharing value so that it is “balanced”.
This interview was recorded in New York on September 21.
