Satoshi Kirishima confessed to crime 50 years later – died of cancer

The man died in hospital in Japan last week. But just before he fell asleep, the 70-year-old managed to reveal a secret he had been carrying since the 1970s, which several media reported on.

The police had received a tip and went to the hospital to question the man. He then stated that he wanted to die under his real name, Satoshi Kirishima.

Died before identity was established

For nearly 50 years, he had lived with a false identity under the name Hiroshi Uchida.

The man was treated for incurable cancer and died before the police managed to confirm his identity, but their dna tests indicate that the man was who he claimed to be.

Satoshi Kirishima belonged to a radical militant group that carried out several bombings against major Japanese companies in the 1970s. Kirishima was the only one of the group’s ten members who was never caught and gave new details about the crime in police interviews.

In his life as a fugitive from justice, he had neither a cell phone nor health insurance. He was paid his salary in cash – all in order not to be discovered.

Found poster during operation

Last Friday, the police raided the company he had worked for for 40 years. During the operation, Satoshi Kirishima’s wanted poster was found, where he has long hair and glasses and a big smile.

He is said not to have been a leader in the group. The other members received various harsh punishments, with two being sentenced to death.
