The fires, which are described as the most devastating in Los Angeles’ modern times, are raging during Thursday mainly in four areas. It shows data from the federal organization NIFC, which coordinates the work against forest fires.
The largest of the fires has affected Pacific Palisades, with over 40,000 residents. There, the fire started on the morning of January 7 – and increased tenfold in size in just 20 minutes.
Satellite images now show how the fires spread and caused extensive devastation in Los Angeles. Because it must be possible to see something despite the cloudy weather, several of the images show short-wave infrared light – which cannot normally be perceived by the human eye.
