Shouting and screaming • tried to hold ceremony • messy scenes in kansas city
A Satanist group in Kansas City in the United States gathered on Friday outside the City Hall to demonstrate for the church and the state to be separated.
Many Christian counter -protesters showed up, it became messy and four people were arrested.
About 30 members from the Satanic Grotto Satanic group gathered to demonstrate outside the City Hall, led by their leader Michael Stewart.
The demonstrations were partly about wanting to see a separation between church and state, and partly that Christians are given greater freedoms and other groups in the country.
The dissatisfaction comes after Stewart’s group wanted to hold a ceremony, a so -called “Black Mass”, indoors. In connection with this, Governor Laura Kelly prohibited temporary protests indoors.
Hundreds of Christian counter -protesters
The ban came after Kelly was pressed by Roman Catholic groups to ban all Satanic Grotto’s events.
“The Bible says that Satan comes to steal, kill and destroy, so when we sanctify a state to Satan, we sanctify it to death,” said Jeremiah Hicks, a pastor at Cure Church in Kansas City, Kansas.
The Satanist group was met by hundreds of Christian counter -protesters who sang and urged the Satanists to accept Jesus. A little away, another hundreds of Christians gathered in a counter -demonstration. The groups eventually started screaming at each other.
Shouted on Satan in the City Hall
Leader Michael Stewart was arrested and handcuffed after he managed to get into the City Hall.
There he was heard shouting: “Hail, Satan!”
Afterwards, his wife Maenad Bee said that Stewart only used his rights.
The members of Satanic Grotto have stated that they have a variety of beliefs. Some are atheists and some have joined the group in protest against the church. Others see Satan as a symbol of independence.
